ParioPlan led an interdisciplinary team retained by the Town of Stony Plain in 2004 to review and update their Municipal Development Plan (MDP). A new MDP was required to accommodate the residential and commercial growth pressures the Town was experiencing. At the time, the Town had experienced an average annual growth rate of 4% since 1991.
The key objectives of the MDP were to manage urban growth in a planned and phased manner that was physically, economically and environmentally sustainable over the long term, while maintaining a small town atmosphere and a sense of community. As a parallel process to the MDP review and update, ParioPlan also prepared an annexation application for the Town. The annexation application was approved by the Municipal Government Board, which allowed the Town of Stony Plain to annex approximately 13 quarter sections from Parkland County on the north, south and eastern Town boundaries.
