ParioPlan undertook a review and update of Lacombe County’s Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and Land Use Bylaw (LUB) which started with a Growth Management Strategy. The planning work included preparing three alternative growth management strategies for review by the Steering Committee, Council and the public. The County placed a high priority on protecting environmentally significant areas and promoting environmentally responsible development while maintaining quality of life for residents. The three alternative growth management strategies developed were based on dispersed, nodal and concentration growth patterns.
The planning process started with a long term vision for Lacombe County. Nine guiding principles were also identified and used in evaluating the three alternative growth management strategies. Following extensive consultation and review, the preferred growth option guided the final Growth Management Strategy and changes to the County’s MDP and LUB.
