Lac La Biche Waterfront Plan
As a result of oil sands development in the region, Lac La Biche County has experienced significant growth. Located in northeast Alberta’s lakeland region, Lac La Biche Lake is also a major regional tourism destination. The Lake’s Big Dock and waterfront area, located in the Lac La Biche townsite, are the focal points of community events and activities. The County initiated the Waterfront Plan to guide future improvements and redevelopment in the urban lakeshore area, including the Big Dock, Churchill Drive and McArthur Place Park.
After completing a site inventory and analysis, the consulting team worked closely with the Big Dock Preservation Committee and County Administration to develop a vision and concepts for the waterfront area. Priorities included a modern marina, public promenade, ‘Complete Street’ approach to Churchill Drive, and enhancement of public amenities in McArthur Park. Graphic illustrations were used extensively to clearly communicate concepts and redevelopment options. The consultants prepared a Waterfront Plan Design Brief which included preliminary cost estimates for developing a new Big Dock with potential for future marina expansion.
